About Carmella
The Italian family of Carmella D’Agostino Mitrano is from Reggio di Calabria in southern Italy. Carmella’s grandmother, Carmella Argiro D’Agostino, passed through Ellis Island at the turn of the century and settled in the Boston area. She brought with her the scrumptious, simple meals of her country, where the culture of food is a staple in and of itself. After her grandfather’s passing and her uncle’s loss to WW II, young Carmella lived with her Italian grandmother, who spoke no English, but who communicated beautifully through the loving gesture of meal preparations. It was in her grandmother’s home that Carmella learned how to prepare many of the family’s traditional dishes. Carmella continues to carry forward the tradition of sharing these dishes with family and friends, who covet an invitation to Carmella’s home for an evening of culinary delight.

Today, Carmella divides her time between the Boston area and Seattle. When she visits Seattle, she is busy preparing dishes in her family’s tradition for the appreciative fans who have eagerly awaited her visit. Carmella’s greatest joy is having William, her only grandchild, assist her in making pasta.
